Gilt Strata

This contemporary mirror is named after the remarkable forms, observed by the artists, in coastal rock beds, on the wild West coast of New Zealand and the British Jurassic coast. The rugged form also found inspiration in the starburst, a decorative mechanism found in Baroque architecture and furniture making and used to create a sense of grandeur and movement. The material approach of forging iron celebrates handmade imperfections, making each sculptural piece unique. Gilding the Iron brightens and elevates the surface as was customary in the Baroque tradition.
