The Story
Caravaggio's dramatic paintings inspired the artist's sculptural installation, "Caravaggio Triptych," which comprises three distinct hand gestures drawn from his iconic works: "Supper at Emmaus," "Bacchus," and "St. Francis." Each silver-plated bronze hand a homage to the painter's powerful compositions. Suspended from each silver-plated, cast-bronze hand is a unique studio-made, glass form, illuminated discreetly from within. The lights playfully referencing Caravaggio's masterful use of chiaroscuro—a technique that translates literally from the Italian as "light-dark," emphasizing the interplay of light and shadow that defines his style. Together, these installations point at the essence of Caravaggio's paintings, inviting viewers to reflect on themes of revelation and illumination while engaging with the rich narrative and emotional depth of his art.
