“It’s a hand-forged piece on an extraordinary scale and illuminated with giant Grandiflora-style blooms, designed to pop against—and soften—the dark, formal mahogany entrance of Park Avenue Armory.”
CHRISTOPHER COX
Magnolia Grandiflora is a large-scale sculptural chandelier commissioned for the entrance of Salon Art + Design in New York, exemplifying how many bespoke creations come to life at Cox London.
The process began with a visit to New York to experience the space and gather inspiration. Back in the London studio, Christopher Cox created a full-scale charcoal drawing to capture the vision. The design and photography team then produced a detailed digital model for integration into the plans and elevations.
Once approved, artisans began hand-forging the ironwork—branching forms with magnolia leaves entwined with olive, oak, and beech, adorned with sprays and buds. While colouring specialists applied veils of white and russet washes, Nicola Cox collaborated with a milliner to sculpt the magnolia petals using traditional textile techniques.
